First Presbyterian Church of Sheridan is responsible for trash pick-up on a two mile long section of Highway 87, beginning near Woodland Park Elementary School, south to the next bridge over Little Goose Creek.

Twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, the men’s group at First Presbyterian coordinates with the Highway Department to schedule a pick-up day (usually a Saturday).

All members of the congregation are invited to meet around 8:00 am for coffee and pastries and then divide into 4 teams, each team responsible for 1/2 mile of the road.  The Highway Department supplies orange trash bags and reflective safety vests.  The filled bags are left along the side of the road and collected by Highway Department crews.

Picking up the trash on a two mile stretch of Highway 87 takes about an hour and at First Presbyterian, we consider that an hour well spent.  After all, God’s first job description to humans was to till and keep the land (Genesis 2:15).
